Here at Surf Culture we are stoked to offer some of the finest surfboard’s available. Donald Takayama is an absolute legend of the shaping craft.

Donald Takayama is a critically acclaimed surfboard designer/shaper and has been building surfboards his whole life. Out of necessity he started shaping wood boards from old railway ties near his home in Hawaii. He grew up surfing in the late 40’s, early 50’s with the likes of The Duke and the legendary Rabbit Kekai.

He is now widely recognised as being one of the most knowledgeable shapers in the world. And from those humble beginnings, Donald now manufactures his boards for sale across the globe. He has seen surfers and designs come and go over the years and has continually refined and modified his shapes and designs to bring you his largest and most sought-after range in surfing today.

Two of our favorite models are the Scorpion and Flow-Egg. Both boards are in the funboard category, but don’t let that discourage you. First up, take a look at the Scorpion;

Donald first came up with this design in the mid 60’s. It has been slightly re-worked and now is basically a smaller version of the Erik Sommer Model. Coming in lengths from 5’6-6’8, this board will absolutely fly when ridden on the nose. With a true “pin” tail and a 2+1 or quad-fin setup, this board will perform the tightest turns qwhen pushed to it’s limits. An excellent alternative for someone looking for a shorter ‘longboard’.

The Flo-Egg is a model that we’ve been stocking for a little while and we’ve had some great feedback from they guy’s who have ridden them.

The Flo-Egg is nothing like the traditional Egg Donald makes, this board is a low rail, single fin wonder. This one is for those who like the long drawn out, full rail turnsof the single fin shortboard days. A throwback to a time when shortboarders still had a log or two in their regular quiver, but who wanted to experience a tighter, more in the pocket turns than their longboards allowed them. Grow your hair long, get a beard and surf point breaks on this little gem!
