Deus Ex Machina (God of Machine) roared into Australia’s cultural consciousness in 2006, with some neatly customized motorcycles and a quaint notion that doing something is more fun than just owning something. Deus set out to celebrate a culture of creativity. The headquarters/showroom/cafe at Camperdown, in Sydney, immediately became a shrine to resourcefulness and street-honest industrial art. The guys over at Deus also have a love of surfing that incorporates the sometimes quirky, but always fun and different shapes of retro styled surfboards. This new book is an in-depth look at the humble beginnings of Deus Ex Machina to now. It captures the fun vibe of the regular ‘swap-meets’ and everything in between. It’s definitely worth a space on the coffee table.
